Along with staying physically active through daily exercise, getting socially involved in senior activities is also highly important as we age. Social contact can be just as effective as exercise at improving your mood and quality of life. Staying socially active can help you maintain good physical and emotional health as well as improve your cognitive function. Senior social activities and interaction with your peers leads to a sharper mind, keeps you connected to the world, and gives you a sense of belonging.
The benefits of staying socially active will last far into your future and are vital to seniors for long term health and mental well-being. The health benefits that come along with an active social life are numerous! Not only can an active social life boost your immune system, but benefits also include potentially reduced risks for Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, cardiovascular problems and even some cancers. Staying social can also help lower blood pressure and reduce symptoms of depression.
