What Are The Perks Of Moving To a Senior Independent-Living Community?

Senior Living Community

If you’ve been hearing “you’re as young as you feel” a lot lately, it’s probably a Baby Boomer who said it! Baby Boomers are feeling younger and more energized than ever. That said, all of the extra extra-curricular activities taken on by Boomers leaves them little time for chores around the house.

It’s a good thing, then, that senior housing isn’t what it used to be, because people are moving in younger and younger.

One of the more popular choices these days are independent living apartments that are specifically designed for seniors.

Here are some perks of living in a “senior” community:

Activities: From cards and games to classes and presentations, most senior community calendars are full of things to do. Some even throw in regularly scheduled happy hours.

Dining: Many communities are hiring gourmet chefs to provide residents with a fine dining experience. Treat those taste buds at any age…and you don’t have to lift a finger!

Outings: If you don’t drive, you’ll appreciate the option of having transportation to a medical appointment or even the grocery store. If you do drive, leave your car at home and take advantage of rides that some communities offer to the theater, museums, restaurants, ball games or casinos.

Fitness: Many apartment communities have fitness rooms and/or classes to help residents stay in shape.  Most include treadmills, and/or have walking paths and aerobics classes. In warmer climates, you can even join a tennis league.

Education: While most Baby Boomers are still pretty sharp, many independent living apartments offer classes and presentations on how to maintain brain health, or keep up with the latest technology. Other classes keep seniors up to date on how to write a will or get their finances in order.

Housekeeping and maintenance: There’s no yard work when you live in a senior-living apartment complex, but some also offer housekeeping and laundry services. What could be better than that?

So, if you think you’re too young for senior living, think again. Do your research to find out which community is best for you.

You will be surprised by what you find, including some pretty young neighbors.
